Rundwanderweg des Naturpark Südeifel Nr. 58 - Holsthum-Ferschweiler
Description
Circular trail through the wooded edge of the Ferschweiler plateau with beautiful views of Holsthum and the Prümtal valley.
The route leads along gentle, sometimes steeply ascending forest paths along the edge of the plateau, which was formed around 200 million years ago from beach deposits of the Lias Sea. This part of the plateau forms a kind of natural fortress that has shown signs of settlement for thousands of years. At various points there is information about the history of settlement and the different types of trees in the forest. The natural rock formations that appear between the trees lend the trail a mystical atmosphere.
Highlights along the way:
- Schmetten sheep - shelter for the local population in times of war (as early as the 30 Years' War)
- Gallo-Roman burial grounds
- View of Holsthum
