Welcome to the Felsenland Südeifel

This landscape was shaped by the forces of nature: rock towers, gorges, and crevices, deep river valleys, and vast highlands take us on a journey through the history of the Earth’s formation. It is also a sensory journey: feeling the cool breeze in the rocky crevice, smelling damp moss, placing your hand on warm slate, listening to the water splashing over stony ground...

The Felsenland, in the far southwest of the Eifel on the border with Luxembourg, is blessed by nature with a unique diversity. The bizarre rock formations of Luxembourg sandstone around the Ferschweiler Plateau and, to the north, the slate cliffs of the Islek along the deeply incised valleys of the Enz and Our rivers form the heartland of the Südeifel Nature Park and the German-Luxembourg Nature Park. But humans, too, have left their mark on this landscape over the millennia. For those who take their time exploring the hiking and biking trails, the ancient Fraubillen Cross tells its story just as much as the ruins of the Roman villa at Holsthum, the Beilsturm tower in Neuerburg, or the Baroque Schankweiler Hermitage.

Popular destinations in the Felsenland include the Teufelsschlucht (Devil’s Gorge) with its namesake nature park center and the large dinosaur park, as well as the charming Oven and Iron Museum. And the hosts of the Felsenland—whether at a hotel, vacation rental, bed & breakfast, campground, or youth hostel—look forward to welcoming you!

Naturwanderpark delux

Welcome to the “NaturWanderPark delux”—literally a “deluxe” hiking experience, even though the “delux” in the name refers to the cross-border nature of the hiking trails.

Over the past few years, 24 premium-quality loop trails have been developed in the Southern Eifel, the Luxembourg Ardennes, and the Müllerthal – Little Luxembourg Switzerland region. They lead through the North and South Eifel Nature Parks, the Our Nature Park, and the Mëllerdall Nature & Geopark, which are characterized by dense forests, but also by wide meadows, deep valleys, mysterious gorges, and bizarre rock formations.
