Virtual Tourist Information – AI-Based Visitor Assistance

Through the project “Virtual Tourist Information – AI-Based Visitor Assistance,” Felsenland Südeifel Tourismus GmbH, in collaboration with partner regions in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm and the Gerolsteiner Land, is developing an innovative, digital visitor information system. The goal is to provide visitors with round-the-clock, multilingual, and accessible tourist information and personalized advice—both at on-site digital outdoor and indoor information kiosks and via a digital service platform on their own smartphones.

At the heart of the project is an AI-powered voice assistant (chatbot) that provides personalized recommendations for excursions, hiking tours, dining, accommodations, and events, consistently prioritizing regional providers. Data-driven visitor management also helps alleviate congestion at heavily frequented hotspots and highlights sustainable, climate-friendly alternatives throughout the region.

The project strengthens the region’s competitiveness in tourism, improves the quality of local services, and contributes to modern, digital, and sustainable tourism in rural areas.

Funding Note:
The project “Virtual Tourist Information – AI-Based Visitor Guidance” is funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ERDF) and the State of Rhineland-Palatinate as part of the funding program “Public Tourism Infrastructure – Tourism Experiences Using Digital Technologies (Tourism 4.0).”
