Rundwanderweg des Naturpark Südeifel Nr. 54 - Teufelsschlucht
Ernzen
A circular tour that combines impressive nature experiences on the rocky edge of the Ferschweiler plateau and in the Prüm valley with a hike across the plateau and an impression of village life in the southern Eifel.
From the starting point at the Teufelsschlucht visitor center, the route leads above the Teufelsschlucht gorge in a wide arc down into the Prüm valley, then along the Hälbach stream back up to the plateau and through the village of Ernzen. The section over the rocky paths and into the Prüm Valley is more strenuous due to the difference in altitude of approx. 170 meters between the plateau and the valley, but it is certainly also the most beautiful section of the trail.
The highlights of this circular hike include the rock formations in the area of the Teufelsschlucht gorge and the rapids of the Prüm, the so-called "Irrel waterfalls". The ascent up to the Ferschweiler plateau on a narrow path along the small Hälbach stream is also an experience. This is followed by a hiking route on largely flat paths through the forest and across fields and a tour of the village of Ernzen.
