Rundwanderweg des Naturpark Südeifel Nr. 50 - Mettendorf
Mettendorf
Due to the storm damage in July 2021, part of the original circular route is not accessible. The route is rerouted as shown on the map and signposted accordingly on site.
The local circular hiking trail 50 of the Southern Eifel Nature Park leads through the valley-side heights south of Mettendorf.
On the way from the lower village through the "Lehmkaul" development area, whose name is easily explained by looking at the shoes, we climb the hills in the direction of Ackelshof. The ascent is rewarded with sweeping views of the lush meadow fields and undulating valley flanks. It is easy to imagine that the Romans already settled here in the Enz valley, as evidenced by the remains of the Roman villa Mettendorf, which lies dormant here beneath fertile farmland. The view of the merrily turning wind turbines brings you back to the present. The orchards on the other side of the valley and the path along the steep red sandstone embankment with the reflecting waters of the Enz are particularly attractive.
Highlights along the way:
- Mettendorf with the parish church of St. Margaretha
- Information point "Roman Villa Mettendorf"
