Memorial trail

Wallendorf

This tour recalls the dramatic events that took place in this border region between the end of 1944 and 1945. The small village of Wallendorf on the German-Luxembourg border, at the confluence of the Sauer and Our rivers, was once the scene of fierce fighting.

When German combat units crossed the Our in December 1944 and attacked the U.S. defence line, there were heavy losses on both sides.
At the beginning of February 1945, American units again crossed the Our from the Hoesdorf Plateau, broke through the Siegfried Line and thus began the invasion of Germany.
17 panels provide information about the events along the 21-kilometre circular trail, which can be hiked in two stages. The Luxembourg section comprises panels 1 to 9 and panel 17, while the German section stretches from panels 10 to 16.

For your own safety, do not enter the fenced-in bunkers and do not leave the marked paths. Dogs must be kept on a lead.

Please treat the victims of this war with respect during this historical tour!
